For over a decade, Dr. Semien has been an advocate for vulnerable communities, authoring impactful articles, books, and handbooks. Yet, her mission doesn’t end with research – she’s a true social entrepreneur at heart. 

As the founder of L.E.E.D. With Joy LLC her mission is to Listen, Educate, Empower, and Drive change among global communities. She embraces this vision by aiding researchers, community leaders, practitioners, and policymakers in effecting positive change within their communities.

Program Manager, Coalition of Community Organizations Houston, Texas
Managed the Climate Connect training program. Responsibilities included managing the budget, procurements, designing a series of community workshops in two Houston Communities (Eastend and Gulfton. Evaluated participant change in knowledge and workshop effectiveness. Managing large data sets, analyzed data. Manage a team of volunteers, contractors, vendors, and speakers.

Developed a series of online and in-person courses housed on the I-DIEM University website. Example courses developed: Historical Bias in Disaster Management, Understanding Environmental Justice, Food Insecurity Housing Insecurity, Religious Bias.           
Curriculum Developer & Instructional Designer, The Robert D. Bullard Center for Climate and Environmental Justice Houston, TX Served as the curriculum developer and instructional designer for the Bullard Center. Developed a 4-week climate and environmental justice curriculum for the Climate Corps program.

Responsibilities included managing large data sets, analyzing data, and providing administrative support for meetings.
